About Tara MacGregor

Pronouns: she/her/hers

Tara is an experienced health professional who has for over 25 years’ been supporting people to manage the challenges of living with chronic disease and mental health issues in both inpatient and community settings. She is a professional Counsellor and Psychotherapist, Clinical Member of PACFA Psychotherapist and Counsellors Federation of Australia and an Accredited Practising Dietitian

Following many years of Clinical Dietetics in various hospital settings, Tara now manages a successful specialist private practice in Sydney, first opened in 2004 . Her practice focuses on assisting adults experiencing  chronic yo-yo dieting, disordered eating and eating disorders. Tara also offers more broadly focused counselling and psychotherapy for clients wanting to look beyond their eating behaviours or clients seeking assistance with issues concerning mental wellbeing and self development.

Tara publishes a seasonal e-newsletter titled Practice Pavestones for health professionals interested in building a client centred orientation into their practice. She runs  training for health professionals wanting to develop competent counselling skills for facilitating behaviour change and is a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers. Tara is a PACFA Accredited Supervisor and provides clinical supervision and mentoring for skill integration and professional development.

Tara’s approach combines skillful client centered counselling with nutrition knowledge, integrating a range of evidence based therapeutic approaches with a leaning toward mindful, experiential enquiry. You can read more about what this may be like to experience as a client here. Tara has a special interest in assisting people to improve their health and well-being using “non-diet” approaches to develop mindful, attuned eating, body connection and calm insight. Tara’s foundational work philosophy is the Health At Every Size HAES ® paradigm. Tara compliments this paradigm with the respect and guidance offered to clients through Motivational Interviewing. For information on Tara’s training and therapeutic influences you can read more below. Whilst professional qualifications and ongoing development are essential to good practice, what really matters to Tara is bringing to her work warmth, humour and a ‘down to earth’ understanding of the real-life challenges of living and working well in the context of modern lives.

Practice Pavestones runs regular training for health professionals with Tara as principal trainer. In 2019 Practice Pavestones will be hosting a variety of workshops with guest speakers who are leaders in their field

Upcoming training dates can be found here.
