Supervision Training for Dietitians:
Becoming an Ethical & Effective Supervisor Foundations for Dietitians
ONLINE
June 13-14 & 20-21, 2024
Workshop Facilitator: Tara MacGregor PACFA Reg Clinical & APD
About the Workshop
Professional Supervision is a rapidly growing area of professional development for Dietitians in contemporary practice. As our practices become increasingly complex, behaviorally and systems focused, Dietitians are looking for ways to access the support they need to remain responsive and resilient.
Supervision is an evidence-based practice that can support health practitioners with their professional development and functioning, support quality service provision and provide oversight for the maintenance of sound professional conduct.
Delivering supervision requires a unique skill set that surpasses simply having enough clinical experience. Becoming an effective supervisor is supported by a working knowledge of useful supervision models, contracting, evaluation and ethical frameworks and being able to translate this knowledge into practice to work well with a supervisee.
This workshop series is conducted over four-part days online and is supported by significant pre-workshop learning material and workbooks. The online component is highly experiential featuring live and recorded demonstrations, discussions, and practice scenarios. The program is conducted in small groups of 15 to ensure the learning is responsive and relevant to the learning needs of participants. The spirit and skill base at the heart of the training is informed by Motivational Interviewing.
Opportunities for attending 12 months of group supervision of supervision is offered to attendees to support the integration of learning.

Feedback from APDs attending Understanding Boundaries Workshop
- ‘This workshop is absolutely essential for every Dietitian who values professional practice – no exceptions.’
- ‘This workshop was a really good exploration of all those things you struggle with as a Dietitian but never hear about/learn about/read about or never really discuss with colleagues. I really liked the discussions and client examples/stories and actions/outcomes of managing boundaries in different situations. I now know where I need to set better boundaries in my practice and have some clear strategies for doing so, that are congruent with ‘best practice’.
- This workshop is engaging, clear and stepped through all of the aspects of professional boundaries. I know that my practice will be more sustainable and professional as a result of implementing what I have learned at the Boundaries Workshop.
- ‘Thought-provoking, and definitely worth attending.’ •‘This was so useful to my work!’.

This course was very worthwhile and enlightening; opening up my mind to new ideas and exciting ways approach behaviour change.
Tara has a lovely style of facilitating learning. It’s nice to walk out of a workshop feeling energised rather than exhausted!
I have done health coaching before and this workshop adds some really appropriate insights for using skills to facilitate the client to problem solve their own challenges.Very worthwhile. Soooo inspiring!
This workshop was very helpful, supportive and empowering. The relaxed setting encouraged me to participate and the structure of the day facilitated that really well. I felt comfortable as a practitioner; MI sits really well with my style of practice.
This workshop provided safe and challenging training and skill development. It was transformational. Extremely valuable.
As Dietitians we have an innate desire to help people and this workshop provides the skills to practice from a real client centred approach. Often we can see the client and what WE think they need but to let them lead the way can be a real breakthrough. I really liked Tara’s ability to allow us time to reflect and think about our own practice.
Tara was down to earth, knowledgeable and highly skilled. The sessions were relaxed, fun and very practical! I have learned so much and have confidence to apply these skills into my everyday practice.
This was an excellent training session, extremely practical and transferable to a wide range of Dietetic settings.
This workshop was a fun, interactive training experience. Tara is clearly very experienced and good at what she does; it was great to be able to share in some of her experiences. This was a supportive and positive learning experience, Tara was really passionate about our learning and attendees being able to take something from the day.
This workshop was challenging but not threatening. Tara presented the information in an engaging way with lots of practical exercises that can be applied in the workplace.
This workshop teaches essential skills for all clinicians. We need this training for change to occur with clients.
This workshop was very useful. Set at a good pace, it went slowly through the skills. Tara didn’t try to cover too much and that really allowed development of skills.
This is the way we should have been taught to counsel our patients at University. This will change your entire thinking about what our approach to helping should look like.
Thanks again for such a fantastic training day last week. Implementing counselling skills has been the hot topic around the office all week, and I have received lots of positive feedback on the day. We found it both rewarding and challenging (in a good way), and already we can identify so many patients who would benefit from our new skill kit. Hopefully we can have you back in the Central West sometime soon!
If you are looking for a safe and supportive learning environment that builds or consolidates fundamental counselling skills then don’t go past this workshop. Tara is a warm, engaging and validating presenter who obviously walks her talk. Thank you so much Tara.
This was such a wonderful opportunity to work on such a fundamental skill for our profession – so inspiring! To see Tara use the skills with us during the session was invaluable; hearing the language/tone was so helpful, a great structure too to the whole day. Tara, Thank you!
Over the course of these two days I thoroughly enjoyed listening to and learning Tara’s approach to counselling clients. It was put in a manner that was easy to understand with plenty of examples. I learn more in two days than I’ve learnt in reading many books. Highly rewarding. Would highly recommend.
This training takes you ‘back to basics’ of solid human interaction and communication. It gives you a setting to try something new and different.
This was a great counselling course. It gave me practical skills and the ‘how to‘! It was great. I think I’ll even do it again one day to consolidate the skills I learn.
This training is a must for every Dietitian who wants to develop a therapeutic relationship with their clients. If you feel your counselling skills have become a bit rusty or you’ve lost your focus, you will brush up on skills (or develop new ones) to help you re-focus the time spent with your clients. Thank you Tara! An extremely worthwhile couple of days!
I would highly recommend Tara’s Essential Skills Workshop for Dietitians at any stage of their career. I felt challenged and enthused.
This workshop was a challenge. This workshop was REAL. I loved Tara’s confidence and passion, this made me want to learn and engage in the workshop. This workshop will change your practice! It will help prevent burnout and inspire you.
This was a challenging workshop which aids in thinking about our client relationship in a ‘new’ way, incorporating counselling skills essential to effective Dietetic practice.
You should really consider this training as it is so worthwhile and inspiring.
This workshop had good balance between learning the theory and putting it into practice. It had great overview of principles and was really hands on. Tara was fantastic as presenter and very knowledgeable.
A beautiful, insightful workshop; a safe environment to learn and self reflect. The workshop reassured me in terms of my own counselling skills and client focus. A must for any Dietitian.
This training was a great way to improve your confidence counselling clients as well as developing new Motivational Interviewing skills. The user friendly counselling skills specific to Dietetics was very helpful.
Great Training! Well paced, practical and relevant for use in day to day practice. Tara was very approachable and provided a great environment and knowledge
This was a wonderful experience. I learn new skills that make sense and appear easy enough to start doing now. Very practical day. I was able to practise what I learn so it doesn’t feel overwhelming
If you get an opportunity to attend Tara’s training I recommend it for every Dietitian no matter what area you work in. You will not regret it and everyone would gain some skills of value. I have a uni friend starting up her own private practice who I will be contacting straight away!
